Muslims in US offer Eid prayer

WASHINGTON (AA) - Muslims from various nationalities living in the US on Friday offered Eid al-Fitr prayer in the mosques, marking the first day of the religious festival.

Hundreds of Muslims gathered at the mosque of Diyanet Center of America in the US state of Maryland, located half an hour away from the capital, Washington, D.C.

Worshippers stood side by side for the prayer, followed by celebration of the day with one another. Turkish Ambassador to the US Hasan Murat Mercan also celebrated the day with Turkish and other citizens at the center.

In New York, thousands of Muslims, dressed in traditional outfits, came together in a park in the Bronx area to perform the Eid prayer.

Meanwhile, in New Jersey, Diyanet Mosque of Bergen hosted members of the Turkish and other Muslim communities for the Eid prayer. Worshippers prayed for all Muslims around the world.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the month-long fasting period of Ramadan. It is a time for Muslims to come together, offer prayers, and enjoy festive meals with family and friends.
