KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) - A Myanmar junta airstrike on a village held by anti-coup fighters killed 12 people, local media reported on Sunday.
The daylight airstrike was carried out by a junta jet fighter on a crowded market in Letpanhla village, located around 60 kilometers (40 miles) north of the country's second biggest city of Mandalay, English news portal Myanmar Now reported.
The village falls in the jurisdiction of Singu, a town that was captured by resistance forces under the command of the National Unity Government (NUG) in July last year.
The victims included two children—a five-year-old and an infant—while several others sustained injuries.
Myanmar’s military has carried out numerous attacks on Singu Township in recent months.
The military seized power in a 2021 coup, which has plunged the country into a fractious civil war.
More than 3.5 million citizens are currently displaced, and half of the population lives in poverty.
