ANKARA (AA) - Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was named most valuable player (MVP) of the 2022-2023 season in the Italian Serie A.

"Khvicha Kvaratskhelia`s impact on the league has been impressive," said Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo, "Congratulations to Napoli for having brought to Italy this talent, who from the very first matches showed off his repertoire of technique, dribbling, personality and creativity."

The 22-year-old will receive his trophy before a match Sunday against Sampdoria at Diego Armando Maradona stadium in Naples.

Napoli had a magical season and were crowned Italian champions for the first time since 1990 under the helm of Luciano Spalletti, 64, who won the Italian Serie A Coach of the Season.

Kvaratskhelia was the main actor in the club’s historic success, with the help of Victor Osimhen, who was named best striker of the season.

Kvaratskhelia scored 23 goals to become the top scorer of the season, with one match left in fixtures.

Another Napoli player, Min-Jae Kim, who is familiar to Turkish fans as he joined the Italian side from Fenerbahce in Türkeye, was named best defender of the season.

Inter Milan's Nicolo Barella won the best midfielder award, while Lazio's goalie Ivan Provedel was the best goalkeeper.

Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli was the best under-23 player of the season.

The rankings were drawn up taking into account the advanced analysis of Stats Perform, created from tracking data recorded with the Hawk-Eye system, according to a Serie A statement.
