Nearly 100 Ukrainian refugees arrive in Greece

ATHENS (AA) - About 100 Ukrainian refugees, who left their homes due to the ongoing war in their country, arrived in Greece early Tuesday.

After almost 30-hour long journey, the refugees arrived in the Greek capital Athens, where they were welcomed by their relatives living in Greece.

The convoy was mostly consisted of women and children and there were also those who brought their pets with them.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, a Ukrainian woman, Maria, said that she joined the convoy with her daughter and grandchildren.

“I haven’t slept since the beginning of the war. I always thought about my relatives. I cried for them,” she said.

“We came here but my friends and relatives are there (Ukraine). I’m thinking of them,” Yelizaveta, another refugee, said.

Yelizaveta, who wishes her loved ones living in Kyiv to go to Greece or another safe country as soon as possible, said: "The whole world should do its best to end this war."

Russia-Ukraine war entered its sixth day on Tuesday, with the latest reports indicating that Russian troops were heading toward the capital, Kyiv.

The war has been met with outrage from the international community, with the European Union, UK, Japan and US implementing a range of economic sanctions on Russia.

At least 102 civilians have been killed so far in Ukraine and more than 500,000 others have fled the country, according to UN officials.

Ukraine says more than 350 civilians have been killed and over 1,600 injured during attacks by Russian forces.
