ISTANBUL (AA) - India’s top security advisor said that Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit his country at the end of the year amid a meeting with Moscow's security chief in the Russian capital on Thursday.

"We were pleased to learn about President Putin's planned visit to our country at the end of the year," Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval was quoted as saying during a meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoygu, according to Russian state news agency Tass.

According to the report, Doval highlighted the importance that the visit "sets new directions for development and gives a significant, tangible result in the negotiations."

He went on to say Russia and India have "very good relations," adding both countries interact at a high level and that their meeting helps strengthen bilateral ties.

During his visit to Moscow, Doval said that the dates of Putin’s visit to India “are being worked out,” according to sources in Indian government.

“No specific date or time has been indicated” by Doval in his engagements, said the sources.

They denied earlier reports that Putin was visiting India by the time of end-August.

There was no official confirmation from either Moscow or New Delhi about the visit as of the time of this report's publishing.

Doval was on a trip to Moscow, New Delhi's strategic partner, as US raised tariffs in New Delhi to 50% over its purchase of Russian oil.
