New York mayor, Trump's border czar unveil 'game changer' plan for immigration enforcement

Officials agree to reopen Rikers Island border agency office to target 'dangerous' undocumented immigrants

By Yasin Gungor

ISTANBUL (AA) - New York City Mayor Eric Adams and US President Donald Trump’s border czar Tom Homan announced a "game changer" collaboration Friday to strengthen immigration enforcement.

The plan includes reopening an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office on Rikers Island, where Adams admitted to houses "some of the most dangerous people," to deport undocumented immigrants accused of crimes.

Homan called it a “game changer.”

"Getting back in Rikers Island is a game changer. Not only do we get the bad guys really hitting the streets, the intelligence of how (Tren de Aragua) operates, where they're operating, all this intelligence they gather at Rikers Island, we have access to," Homan said alongside Adams on a Fox & Friends program.

Tren de Aragua, a US-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization, is a transnational criminal group known for violent activities.

Homan vowed to hold Adams accountable, saying: “If he doesn’t come through, I’ll be back in New York City ... saying: ‘Where the hell is the agreement we came to?’”

The collaboration comes amid increased federal pressure on the city to cooperate with immigration enforcement, including the Justice Department dropping corruption charges against Adams and the US disaster and emergency agency, FEMA, reclaiming funds for migrant assistance.
