New York subway shooter pleads guilty to terrorism charges

NEW YORK (AA) - A man accused of committing a mass shooting last April on a New York City subway train pleaded guilty Tuesday in a Brooklyn federal court to terrorism charges.

Frank James, who opened fire on the crowded train, wounding 10 people, said ''my intention was to cause serious bodily injury to the people on the train.”

James, 63, pleaded guilty to 10 counts of committing a terrorist attack or other violence against a mass transportation vehicle carrying passengers and employees – one count for each gunshot victim.

According to court documents, James used a Glock 17 pistol he legally purchased in Ohio to conduct a mass shooting on an N train in Brooklyn, New York.

The masked shooter set off smoke grenades before opening fire on the train. He was arrested on April 13 at a McDonald's.

He is scheduled to stand trial in late February and faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
