Nigeria registers 753 new COVID-19 infections
Country procures 29M doses of single-shot Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine

KANO, Nigeria (AA) - Nigeria reported 753 new cases of COVID-19 across the country, health authorities said on Friday.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control said the new infections were recorded in 13 states and the federal capital territory.
The data showed that 357 more patients recovered from the infection, while five people died of the virus over the last 24 hours.
So far, Nigeria has confirmed a total of 180,661 cases, including 166,560 recoveries and 2,200 deaths, across the country.
Also, the federal government has spent 122 billion Nigerian nairas ($296.5 million) to procure 29 million doses of the single-shot Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.
Faisal Shuaib, the executive director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, said the federal government has received the first batch of 177,600 vaccine doses.
The procurement of the doses was done through the African Vaccine Acquisition Team of the African Union Commission, through a facility provided by the African Export-Import Bank.
