LONDON (AA) - Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store on Thursday said the government has secured broad parliamentary support for an additional 50 billion kroner (approximately €4.3 billion ) in aid to Ukraine for 2025.
This new commitment brings Norway’s total financial support to Ukraine for the year 2025 to 85 billion kroner, or about €7.5 billion.
Store emphasized that the funds would serve to strengthen Ukraine’s position, support a peace plan, and enhance European security.
The announcement comes at a time when European leaders have scrambled to increase defense spending, as US President Donald Trump suspended military aid to Kyiv and moved to make a peace deal with Russia to end the Ukraine war.
European leaders on Thursday gathered in Brussels to discuss defense and Ukraine.
The EU’s top diplomat Kaja Kallas said “all options are on the table” to finance European defense, mentioning grants, cohesion funds or changes to the bloc’s fiscal rules as possibilities.
