NY Times, WaPo apps remain on Trump's phone: report

US president has not deleted newspapers' apps despite decision to end White House subscriptions

By Servet Gunerigok

WASHINGTON (AA) - Despite his fierce stance against critical coverage of the New York Times and Washington Post, U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly still has apps of both newspapers on his smart phone.

Citing sources familiar with the president's phone, Axios news website said Sunday that Trump has not deleted the newspapers' apps.

That news emerged nearly two weeks after Trump announced his decision to end the White House's subscriptions to the two newspapers.

On Oct. 23, the White House said it would not renew subscriptions, which came a day after Trump suggested ending them during an interview with Fox News.

"We don't even want it in the White House anymore. We're going to probably terminate that and The Washington Post," Trump said at the time.

However, a tweet by Trump on Oct. 26 suggested that he continues to follow the Washington Post, in which he accused the Post of "keeping doing phony stories, with zero sources, that I am concerned with the impeachment scam.

"I am not because I did nothing wrong," he tweeted.

Trump has repeatedly assailed the Times, in particular over its coverage.

In a February tweet, the U.S. president claimed the newspaper’s reporting was "false" and accused it of being "a true ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!"

In an Oval Office interview with the Times the same month, Trump claimed everybody thought the newspaper treated him badly.

"Washington Post also, but The New York Times even more so treats me unbelievably terribly," he said.
