Soccer teams, players in New Zealand honoured 50 victims of terror attacks in Christchurch

ANKARA (AA) - After Friday's terrorist attacks at two mosques that killed 50 and injured scores in New Zealand, a number of soccer teams and players paid tribute to the victims on Sunday.

Kosta Barbarouses, the Wellington-born scorer for Melbourne Victory, made a heart-warming tribute after his goal against Brisbane Roar by bowing down to his knees and putting his head to the ground as Muslims do in prayers in an apparent gesture to Muslim victims of the terror attacks.

The gesture of Barbarouses was hailed by Muslims and non-Muslims alike in social media.

In another gesture of solidarity, players from Wellington Phoenix and Western Sydney Wanderers joined together in the center circle of the soccer field to honor the victims.

Thousands of users have shared these tributes in their social media in condemnation of the terror attacks.

At least 50 people were killed as a terrorist named Brenton Harrison Tarrant opened fire on worshippers during Friday's prayers at the Al Noor and Linwood mosques in Christchurch, the third-largest city of New Zealand.

The massacre was streamed live on social media.
