Oman's sultan, Indian premier witness deal aimed at boosting trade, investment, cooperation

ISTANBUL (AA) - Oman and India on Thursday signed a comprehensive economic partnership agreement aimed at strengthening trade and investment ties and expanding cooperation across a range of strategic sectors, Oman News Agency reported.

Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks at the Al Baraka Palace in Muscat, where they reviewed existing avenues of cooperation between the two countries and discussed ways to broaden partnership prospects and investment opportunities to meet shared future ambitions. The talks also covered key regional and international developments.

Following the meeting, the Omani ruler and the Indian prime minister witnessed the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, which is intended to enhance commercial and investment cooperation and facilitate the movement of goods and services between the two countries.

The agreement also seeks to expand collaboration in vital fields including energy, technology and manufacturing industries.

Modi’s visit to Muscat is the last leg of his current tour that included Jordan and Ethiopia.

The visit marks Modi’s second trip to Oman after a first visit in 2018 and coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1955.

Oman is India’s third-largest export destination among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Bilateral trade reached approximately $10.5 billion in the 2024–2025 fiscal year, including $4 billion in Indian exports, while imports from Oman amounted to $6.54 billion.
