ANKARA (AA) - More than 30 million people in war-torn Sudan need urgent aid amid worsening living conditions, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on Wednesday.
"Over 30 million people in Sudan are in critical need of humanitarian aid," Mohamed Refaat, head of the IOM Mission in Sudan, said in a statement on X.
He warned that “cholera outbreaks and other health emergencies are worsening the crisis" in the country.
Refaat underlined the importance of securing funds for humanitarian response in Sudan to ensure reaching people in need.
Sudan has been ravaged by war between the army and the rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group since April 2023, resulting in more than 20,000 deaths and 15 million displaced, according to the UN and local authorities.
A study by US universities has estimated the death toll at approximately 130,000.
