Over 3,700 police officers injured in Iran protests, lawmaker says

ISTANBUL (AA) – A senior Iranian lawmaker said Monday that more than 3,700 police officers were injured in protests that swept the country since last month.

Ibrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, shared the figures during a news conference, where he addressed developments related to the latest wave of anti-government protests, Mehr News Agency reported.

No details, however, were given about the death toll in the protests.

Anti-government protests jolted Tehran and several Iranian cities since last month over the worsening economic conditions and a record depreciation of the national currency, the rial.

There are no official casualty figures, but the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), a US-based rights group, estimates that the death toll has reached more than 3,700, including both security forces and protesters, while over 24,300 protesters have been arrested.
