Pakistan rejects Indian claim over Pahalgam attack

Indian home minister had claimed 3 gunmen killed in Kashmiri capital on July 28 were of 'Pakistani origin'

KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) - Pakistan on Wednesday rejected any link to the April 22 attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, which triggered a brief military escalation with Pakistan in May.

Indian Home Minister Amit Shah had said the Indian army on Monday killed three gunmen, who were behind the Pahalgam tourist resort attack that left 26 tourists dead.

Shah claimed the slain gunmen were of Pakistani origin.

"The account given by the Indian home minister is replete with fabrications, leading to serious questions about its credibility. Is it a mere coincidence that the alleged perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack were killed at the start of the Lok Sabha (lower house) debate?" Pakistan's Foreign Ministry spokesman Shafqat Ali Khan said in a statement.

New Delhi had blamed Islamabad for the Pahalgam attack. Pakistan denied and called for a neutral investigation.

India then launched airstrikes on Pakistan, drawing a military response. After an exchange of attacks for four days, US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between the two nuclear rivals on May 10, which remains in effect.
