ISLAMABAD (AA) - Pakistan on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding with a US-linked financial technology firm affiliated with World Liberty Financial to develop cross-border digital payment systems, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The agreement was signed in Islamabad by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Zachary Witkoff, a co-founder of World Liberty Financial (WLF), the statement said.

The pact involves SC Financial Technologies LLC, an affiliate of WLF, which is described as a cryptocurrency-focused financial technology company.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Defense Forces Chief Syed Asim Munir attended the signing ceremony.

During a meeting with the visiting US delegation, Sharif outlined his vision for a “Digital Pakistan” focused on greater connectivity, access, transparency and openness, the Prime Minister’s Office said.

He said the rapid growth of digital payments and financial innovation is a central pillar of Pakistan’s expanding digital economy and welcomed growing international interest in the country’s digital financial markets.

Witkoff, for his part, expressed interest in partnering with Pakistan to build what he described as a secure and transparent digital payment infrastructure, including innovations in cross-border settlements and foreign exchange processes, the statement said.

He praised Pakistan’s policy framework, saying it is helping position the country as a serious contender in the global digital finance landscape, and signaled interest in expanding cooperation on next-generation payment systems.
