KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) — A Pakistani court on Thursday acquitted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son of corruption charges, court records show.

The judge of a special anti-corruption court in the northeastern city of Lahore accepted the acquittal plea of Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz, who is also a lawmaker, in a corruption case involving their family-owned Ramzan Sugar Mills.

The case involved the construction of a drain near the Sharif family's sugar mill in the town of Chiniot town in Punjab province.

The prosecution had accused Sharif of using government funds to construct a drain for his mill while he was Punjab's chief minister, which he denied.
