ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AA) - Pakistani and Turkish aid groups organized a solidarity day with orphans in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad on Wednesday.

The event was organized by the Khubaib Foundation Pakistan and Turkey’s Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) at Jinnah Convention Centre. Over 2,000 orphans from various orphanages attended.

Among dignitaries at the event were top advisor to Turkey’s prime minister Omer Faruk Korkmaz, former Pakistani Prime Minister Chudhery Shujaat Husain, Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan Mustafa Yurdakul, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) Islamabad Coordinator Mehmet Emre Aktuna, and representatives of foreign missions in Islamabad.

Korkmaz applauded the role of aid groups in supporting orphans and making their future brighter.

“Today I am very happy to meet these children and see the smiles on their faces,” Korkmaz told the gathering.

At the event, the children enjoyed traditional dances, sketches, and plays.

Husain thanked the Turkish government and Turkish aid groups for providing tremendous services and support to Pakistan.

“Turkey always stands with Pakistan at every difficult time, and today’s event is a great example of that,” he said.

Yurdakul vowed to continue his support for orphans in Pakistan, saying: “We should all help orphans to bring smiles to their faces and make their future bright.”
