Palestinian killed by Israeli fire in West Bank: Report

JERUSALEM (AA) - A young Palestinian died from gunfire wounds suffered by Israeli forces during confrontations in the occupied West Bank city of Qalqilya, local media reported Saturday.

“Ayed Azzam Saleem, 20, died shortly after being critically injured by Israeli gunfire in the abdomen and chest in the town of Azzun,” said the official Palestinian news agency, Wafa, citing the Health Ministry.

It said at least 95 Palestinians, including 17 children and an elderly woman, were killed in 2023 by Israeli forces.

Also, four Palestinians were injured in an attack by Israeli settlers on Palestinian vehicles in Al-Bireh, according to Wafa, citing Palestinian security sources.

Tension escalated between Israel and Lebanon in recent days amid violence in occupied territories following Israeli raids on the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in East Jerusalem.

On Thursday, 37 rockets were fired from southern Lebanon into Israel, with no group claiming responsibility.

Israel retaliated with air and artillery bombing on several targets inside Lebanon. No injuries were reported.
