Palestinian prisoner Khader Adnan dies in Israeli prison after 87 days of hunger strike

RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) - Palestinian prisoner Khader Adnan died on Monday in an Israeli prison after 87 days of hunger strike, according to a written statement by the Palestinian group Islamic Jihad on Tuesday.

“The free hero, Khader Adnan, died as a martyr in a crime committed by the enemy in front of the world,” it noted, adding that the “occupying Israel” will pay the price of his demise.

Adnan was on hunger strike for 87 days, and his health condition deteriorated recently.

On April 23, the Palestinian Prisoners Society said in a statement that Israeli military court recently rejected his lawyer’s request that he be released on bail while he was on the 78th day of the strike.

Adnan was repeatedly detained by Israeli forces and had staged several hunger strikes to protest his detention.

In 2012, Adnan staged a 66-day hunger strike in protest of his detention, forcing the Israeli authorities to release him. He staged similar hunger strikes in 2015 and 2018.
