Palestinian teen sentenced to 12 years for stabbing

Manasrah found guilty of attempted murder and possessing a knife in May

By Kaamil Ahmed

JERUSALEM (AA) – An Israeli court on Monday sentenced a Palestinian teen to 12 years in prison for his alleged involvement in a stabbing attack last year, his lawyer said.

Ahmad Manasrah's high-profile case had been sensitive because of a video from the incident that apparently showed paramedics refusing to treat the teen, then 13, after he was injured.

"It is a crime against human rights and child rights and shows this state is not a state of law but a state of gangs," lawyer Tariq Bargouth said of the verdict.

Manasrah and his 15-year old cousin had attempted to stab Israelis in Pisgat Ze'ev, an Israeli settlement in occupied East Jerusalem, in October 2015. His cousin was shot dead by security forces.

Manasrah was found guilty of attempted murder and possessing a knife in May.

Up to 230 Palestinians have been killed in an uptick in Israeli-Palestinian violence since October, according to Palestinian figures.

Israel, for its part, says 40 Israelis have been killed over the same period.
