People of Europe show wholehearted solidarity with quake-hit Türkiye

ANKARA/MADRID/WARSAW (AA) - The people of Europe continue to show their wholehearted solidarity with quake-hit Türkiye by contributing to aid drives organized in different countries.

In Spain, numerous Spaniards delivered many boxes full of winter clothes, clothes for children and women, and blankets to three warehouses supervised by the Turkish Embassy in Madrid.

All collected relief materials are to be transported to Türkiye by the Turkish Airlines.

Likewise, thousands of Poles donated over 1 million Zloti (around $227,000) to the donation campaign by PAH, one of the country’s major humanitarian relief organizations.

What is more, many NGOs from across Europe, including Save The Children, Doctors Without Borders, Oxfam, and International Rescue Committee have launched donation campaigns to support victims of the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria.

At least 8,574 people were killed and 49,133 others injured after two strong earthquakes on Monday jolted southern Türkiye, the country's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday.

The magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes, centered in the Kahramanmaras province, struck 10 provinces and affected more than 13 million people.

Several countries in the region, including Syria and Lebanon, felt the strong tremors that struck Türkiye in the space of less than 10 hours.

More than 96,670 people in multiple search and rescue teams are currently conducting operations in the field, according to AFAD.
