ISTANBUL (AA) - The Philippines, during the first week of this month, has recorded the highest number of weekly deaths of the year in the so-called "war on drugs," a monitoring program has claimed.

Among the 14 fatalities, "11 were caused by state agents" in the northeastern Davao City of the Philippines, the monitoring project Dahas run by the University of the Philippines showed.

The city remains the sole location where all drug-related killings are attributed to the police.

Former President Rodrigo Duterte launched several large-scale arrests of drug dealers and users, allowing police to kill every criminal and drug user. Thousands of people have been killed, triggering a backlash and a probe by the International Criminal Court.

The last six months of last year saw 175 casualties, while the country has registered 148 fatalities since the beginning of this year, according to the monitoring program.

It also claimed that state agents remain the main attackers, and the areas with the highest incidents have shifted from the capital region and Negros Occidental area to Davao City and Cebu province, both located in the eastern part of the island.
