KHARTOUM, Sudan (AA) – An exhibition of photos and footage taken by Anadolu Agency during Turkey’s 2016 defeated coup went on display in Sudan’s capital Khartoum on Tuesday.

Organized by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), the exhibition in Afra Mall business complex in Khartoum depicts the events of the night of the July 15 defeated coup and the sacrifices made by the Turkish people to foil it.

Dubbed "July 15 - The Struggle for Democracy", the event marks the fifth anniversary of the coup attempt by the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO).

Turkish Ambassador to Sudan Irfan Neziroglu and TIKA Representative Bilal Ozen were present during the opening ceremony.

The photo exhibition will also be held in the International University of Africa in Khartoum on Wednesday where African students studying at the university will be oriented of the details of the defeated coup.

FETO and its US-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, in which 251 people were killed and 2,734 injured.

Fighter jets under control of coup plotters bombed parliament in the early hours of July 16.

Turkey marks June 15 as Democracy and National Unity Day with events nationwide to commemorate those who lost their lives beating back the putschists and to remember the bravery of the nation.

Ankara also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
