MARDIN, Turkey (AA) - Two young children were injured when a makeshift bomb planted by the terrorist PKK organization went out in the southeastern Mardin province.
The explosion in a residential area in Nusaybin district left Havin Gunes, 3, seriously injured, according to a medical source at the Mardin State Hospital, where Havin was transferred after the initial treatment at Nusaybin State Hospital.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, added that Fatih Gunes, 5, was also injured in the blast in the Abdulkadir Pasa district, where the PKK had last year dug up ditches, and set up barricades against security forces.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
More than 1,200 people, including security force personnel and civilians, have lost their lives since the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union -- resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July 2015.
