By Anadolu Agency Staff

ERBIL, Iraq (AA) - The PKK terrorist organization kidnapped 52 people Tuesday in northern Iraq’s Sinjar region.

Peshmerga commander Shemo Ido reported the incident in a statement, according to the Erbil-based broadcast news station Kurdistan 24.

Ido added that the fate of those abducted is unknown.

- Sinjar deal

Although an agreement was signed between the Iraqi government and the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) on Oct. 9, 2020 which stipulated ending the PKK’s presence in Sinjar, the terrorist organization has stepped up its activities.

The Sinjar deal, signed under the auspices of the UN on the status of the region, envisages clearing the region of PKK terrorists.

The PKK terror organization managed to establish a foothold in Sinjar in 2014 under the pretext of protecting the Yazidi community from Daesh/ISIS terrorists.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the European Union – has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children and infants.
