BATMAN (AA) - A car bomb attack targeted a gendarmerie station in southeastern Turkey on Friday, injuring an unknown number of people, according to security sources.

The attack in the province of Batman was carried out by the outlawed PKK terrorist organization, said the source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on talking to the media.

Sources said that the car bomb hit a gendarmerie station at the entrance to the town of Bekirhan in the province's Kozluk district, wounding an unknown number of people.

The injured were taken to hospitals in Kozluk and Batman.

Security forces lunched a wide-ranging operation to capture the perpetrators.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015. Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of around 1,200 people, including women and children.
