WARSAW (AA) - Poland announced on Tuesday the launch of a new cybersecurity military unit.
Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak underlined that the unit's aims include the defense, reconnaissance and, where necessary, protection of the Polish Armed Forces from cyberattacks.
"We are aware that cyberattacks have become the tools of politics in the 21st century and also used by our neighbor," Blaszczak said, referring to Russia.
Underlining that the cybersecurity force would be a fundamental and key part of the Polish Armed Forces, Blaszczak said Gen. Koral Molenda of the Polish army was appointed to head the unit.
The move comes after the head of the chancellery of Poland's prime minister, Michal Dworczyk's emails were leaked from a private email account in 2021 and became available on the Internet.
