Poland voices readiness to support Ukraine

Independent Ukraine in interest of all European countries, says Poland prime minister

By Huseyingulu Huseyinzade

WARSAW, Poland (AA) - Poland declared its readiness on Tuesday to support Ukraine’s defense.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki held a conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Denys Shmyhal in Kyiv and said Poland was ready to support Ukraine in energy, defense and humanitarian aid and noted that a resolution supporting Ukraine's territorial integrity and independence was adopted Jan. 27 in Poland.

The Polish prime minister said his country will provide defensive weapons to Kyiv and pointed out the importance of solidarity among EU countries.

He added an independent and democratic Ukraine is in the interest of all European countries.

The announcement comes amid increased tensions between Kyiv and Moscow.

Western countries estimate that Russia has positioned more than 100,000 troops along its Ukraine border.

The US and its European allies have been warning of a potential Russian invasion amid the military buildup.

Russia denies planning an invasion, maintaining that its troops are taking part in routine exercises.

All of this comes eight years after Russia illegally annexed Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula and began its support for separatist rebels operating in eastern Ukraine.
