Poland's premier blames Russia for house damage amid reports of stray Polish missile

ISTANBUL (AA) - Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Wednesday said Russia bears full responsibility for damage to a home in eastern Poland, following media reports that the incident may have been caused by a stray Polish missile rather than a Russian drone.

The Polish daily Rzeczpospolita, citing anonymous security sources, reported that a Polish F-16 missile malfunctioned while intercepting Russian drones during their incursion into Polish airspace between Sept. 9 and 10.

The missile reportedly slammed into a house in the village of Wyryki but did not detonate due to built-in safety systems.

Initially, Polish officials said the house had been hit by a Russian drone.

“All responsibility for the damage to the house in Wyryki falls on those responsible for provocation, the Russians,” Tusk wrote on US social media company X.

He added that authorities would inform the public and the president once investigations were completed.

Poland’s National Security Bureau (BBN), which reports to President Karol Nawrocki, said the president had not received a government report on the incident before Rzeczpospolita’s article was published.

“The President of the Republic of Poland is still awaiting a precise report in this matter, and society rightly demands the truth and reliable information,” the BBN said in a statement.

The Defense Ministry, however, said it was regularly updating the BBN on the ongoing investigation. Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz dismissed allegations of a cover-up.

“Suggestions of attempts to conceal or silence (last week’s) events are false. The military and services are carrying out their work exemplarily, and the aggressor bears full responsibility for the losses resulting from this unprecedented Russian provocation,” he said.
