Police in Wales confirm they were following 2 boys before their deaths, which sparked riot

CCTV footage reveals that boys had been under police surveillance

LONDON (AA) - Police in Wales have officially acknowledged that their officers were following two boys right before they were killed in a road crash that triggered a riot in the capital Cardiff.

The victims, Harvey Evans, aged 15, and Kyrees Sullivan, aged 16, died when their electric bike was involved in a collision which triggered rioting Monday evening that left several police officers injured.

South Wales police initially said they did not pursue the boys, but CCTV footage revealed that they had been under police surveillance.

During a press conference Wednesday, Deputy Chief Constable Rachel Bacon evaded questions on the matter.

She disclosed that the South Wales Police officers' van was present on Grand Avenue when the fatal collision occurred on Snowden Road, approximately half a mile away.

Bacon clarified that only the bike was involved in the fatal crash and refrained from providing details or commenting on why the police were observed tailing the teenagers on CCTV.

She cited an ongoing investigation by the police watchdog as the reason for her non-disclosure.
