GENEVA (AA) - Poland and Israel agreed Wednesday to the return of the Polish ambassador to Israel, calling it a "new chapter" in bilateral ties during a meeting in Warsaw.

"We agreed on the Polish Ambassador's return to Israel and on ending the tensions between our countries. We also signed an agreement about the return of Israeli youth delegations to Poland," Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen said on Twitter following a meeting with his Polish counterpart Zbigniew Rau.

Noting that Poland is a "significant actor" in Europe today, Cohen said that "together, we will continue to promote issues such as the determined fight against Iran's nuclear plans."

The Polish Foreign Ministry also tweeted about the meeting, saying the two top diplomats also discussed the situation in the Middle East and Russian aggression against Ukraine besides the current state of bilateral relations.

Regarding the issue of Israeli youth delegations to Poland, the ministry said: "After being suspended in 2022, the issue has been the subject of intense discussions in recent months."

"The agreement closes a certain stage in bilateral relations and opens the perspectives of balanced, equal and reciprocal relations," Rau said at the press conference after the meeting.
