Pope Francis calls for making food ‘solely an instrument of peace’

ANKARA (AA) - Pope Francis on Sunday said that those having “political responsibilities” should lead the way to make food “solely an instrument of peace.”

In his traditional Christmas Day message, the pope underlined that there are children who suffer from hunger, while a huge amount of money is spent on weapons.

He said that the war in Ukraine aggravated the global food crisis and put particularly the people in Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa at risk of famine.

Drawing attention to the ongoing war in Ukraine and the suffering it caused among civilians, the pope said: “Our time is experiencing a grave famine of peace,” and urged peaceful co-existence, and reconciliation.
