Poroshenko congratulates Trump on US election victory
Ukraine president stresses Washington’s importance to Ukraine in Russian aggression against former Soviet republic

KIEV (AA) – President Petro Poroshenko late Tuesday congratulated U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on winning that country’s election.
Poroshenko told Trump his country was ready to improve active cooperation with the U.S. during his term and stressed the importance of Washington to Ukraine in Russia’s aggression against the former Soviet republic, according to a statement issued by the presidential press office.
Both men decided to maintain bilateral talks, and Poroshenko invited Trump to visit Ukraine.
Trump will take the oath of office on Jan. 20 to become the 45th president of the United States.
