GAZIANTEP, Türkiye (AA) - A 20-year-old pregnant woman, who was seriously injured in a YPG/PKK terrorist attack in southeastern Türkiye, is slowly getting better, her doctor said.

Busra Karatas was injured when multiple rockets landed on her three-story house located in the Karkamis district of Gaziantep province.

Ahmet Senol Uyar, an intensive care specialist at the Gaziantep University’s Faculty of Medicine, told Anadolu Agency that Karatas was unconscious when she arrived at the hospital.

“She had injuries on her cheek and inside her mouth due to the explosion. First, we took her to the intensive care unit.”

Uyar said there was a 1.5 cm separation of the placenta, an organ which attaches to the wall of the uterus and feeds the baby.

However, there was no need for emergency surgery to save the life of the mother and baby.

Karatas, who is 5 months pregnant, is now able to breathe on her own, the doctor said.

"We are watching her as she is fully awake.”

The attack in Gaziantep killed three people and injured six others, Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said Monday.

In its more than 35-year terror campaign against Türkiye, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the US, and the EU – has been responsible for the deaths of more than 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants. The YPG is the terror group's Syrian offshoot.
