BAKU, Azerbaijan (AA) - A preliminary hearing for two Armenian nationals accused of torturing Azerbaijani hostages in the First Nagorno-Karabakh War was held on Wednesday.
The hearing was held at the Baku Military Court.
The defendants – Ludvik Mkrtychyan, 52, and Alyosha Khosrovyan, 54, – were detained by Azerbaijani soldiers in the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War, also known as the Patriotic War, last year.
During the hearing, the accused and the complainants were reminded of their rights and the court decided to hold the next hearing on June 9.
As a result of investigation, it was determined that the defendants were among the Armenian forces in the First Nagorno-Karabakh War in the 1990s and were involved in torturing Azerbaijani hostages.
They will be tried for crimes such as torture, violation of the rules of war, forming an illegal armed organization and illegally crossing Azerbaijani borders.
