TBILISI, Georgia (AA) - The prime ministers of Georgia and Armenia on Wednesday discussed the possibilities of joining regional transportation and energy projects.

Irakli Garibashvili met Nikol Pashinyan, who arrived in the Georgian capital Tbilisi for a two-day official visit.

Speaking at a joint press conference following their meeting, Garibashvili said there have been conflicts in the Caucasus for 30 years, and peace and stability of the region should be strengthened through joint efforts.

He highlighted the importance of “new opportunities, new possibilities, development, and peace."

Pointing out that Georgia played a role in persuading Azerbaijan to release 15 Armenian citizens, Garibashvili said they are ready to act as a mediator for peace in the region.

“We also discussed the opportunities available in the region, not only about Armenia or Georgia, but also in general, and what we can do to increase the region's potential,” said Pashinyan. “I'm talking about transit routes here. In addition, various energy projects are carried out and we want to choose the most suitable ones."
