Pro-Palestine activist says ‘Germany should be shamed internationally’ following broken bone after she was punched in face by police
'On Friday, I had a surgery on my arm and I now have 11 screws holding the bone together,' says Irish protester

LONDON (AA) - An Irish activist who faced police during a pro-Palestine rally last month in Berlin, denounced Germany, saying it should be "shamed internationally."
Kitty O'Brien, 25, spent a week in the hospital due to multiple injuries after she was punched in the face by police at a demonstration in support of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Footage circulated online showed O'Brien being hit twice in the face by an officer and subsequently dragged from the protest on Aug. 28.
O'Brien told Irish broadcaster RTE that she has a broken nose, a broken humerus bone and potentially long-standing radial nerve damage.
"On Friday, I had a surgery on my arm and I now have 11 screws holding the bone together," she said.
O'Brien added that her friends have also suffered broken noses, fractured wrists, a broken spine, “and countless other injuries."
"Germany should be shamed internationally for how it's treating protesters, in a country that claims to be democratic," said O'Brien.
Asked whether she was going to attend another protest, O'Brien said: "Yeah, of course. I mean, there's absolutely no attempts at silencing us that are going to work, because Palestine is still being genocided ... so there's no stopping us.”
Nearly 200 protesters gathered Aug. 28 in Hackescher Markt Square to denounce Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, targeting of journalists and a famine in the besieged enclave.
Police intervened during the demonstration, with one officer punching a demonstrator. Eight protesters were arrested.
The genocide in Gaza entered day 700 on Friday, with Israel having killed at least 64,300 Palestinians. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, which is facing famine.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
