PYD/PKK activities in Afrin seen from Turkish border

Anadolu Agency's team monitoring situation in region, where Turkey is expected to launch operation

By Kerem Kocalar
KILIS, Turkey (AA) - As Turkey is expected to launch a military operation in the neighboring Afrin district of Syria, Anadolu Agency’s team has witnessed some activities of PYD/PKK terrorist group in the region.
According to the Anadolu Agency’s team, they are monitoring situation in Afrin from Kilis, Akcabaglar and Demirisik villages in southern Turkey.
It said the PYD/PKK has removed the pieces of rags symbolizing the terrorist organization.
About five months ago, five Russian flags could be seen in the area, but now there is only one Russian flag waving in the region. The poles on which flags had been previously hung were now caught empty on cameras.
Local sources reported the terrorist group has built several observation towers in a period of just two or three months. It was observed that some armed people were roaming around the towers and several positions are also set up by digging the ground.
On Saturday, Turkish security forces hit several PYD/PKK targets in Afrin to prevent a "terror corridor" from forming along Turkey's borders.
The Afrin operation will follow Turkey's successful seven-month Operation Euphrates Shield, which ended in March 2017.
The coalition had issued a written statement to some media outlets earlier on Sunday, wherein it said that it was working with the SDF to set up and train a Syrian border protection force.
Turkey has long protested the U.S. support for the PYD/PKK, the Syrian offshoot of the PKK terrorist organization, and its military wing PYG, while Washington sees it as a "reliable ally" in its fight against Daesh in Syria.
Listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU, the PKK has waged a terror campaign against Turkey for more than 30 years.
