PYD/PKK uses old picture to smear Afrin op

Sympathizers of PYD/PKK terrorists use 2015 picture of marketplace to mislead public

ANKARA (AA) - Sympathizers of PYD/PKK terrorists continue using social media for a smear campaign against Turkey's Operation Olive Branch in northwestern Syria.

Social media accounts backed by the terrorist group are using old and irrelevant pictures to spread propaganda.

They tried to portray a picture taken in 2015 as if it was taken during the ongoing operation in Afrin.

The picture, actually taken in Syria's Raqqah, shows Daesh selling properties looted from Ezidi communities in 2015.

The terror group, through its concocted lies, is trying to convince the international community that Operation Olive Branch also targets civilians.

All the claims made by the terror group and its backers are false since the pictures were taken in different regions, much before Jan. 20 when the operation in Afrin was launched.

The PKK terror group has given instructions to its supporters to post false and fake images ahead of the United Nations General Assembly meeting in a bid to undermine the operation.

According to the Turkish General Staff, the aim of the Afrin operation is to establish security and stability along Turkish borders and the region, and to protect the Syrian people from the oppression and cruelty of terrorists.

Only terrorist targets were being destroyed and "utmost importance" was being given to not harm any civilian, according to the military.

The PYD/PKK is the Syrian offshoot of the PKK terrorist group, which has been designated a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU.
