Queen Elizabeth attends memorial service for late husband

It is queen’s 1st major public appearance in 5 months

By Karim El-Bar

LONDON (AA) – Queen Elizabeth II attended on Tuesday a memorial service for her late husband Prince Philip, the duke of Edinburgh.

The queen, 95, only confirmed the decision this morning, hours before the service.

The British monarch traveled to Westminster Abbey with her son Prince Andrew. This was his first public engagement since he reached a settlement in a US civil sex abuse case with Virginia Giuffre.

The service was attended by Prince Philip’s relatives, friends and representatives of his charities.

His funeral last year was attended by just 30 people due to COVID-19 restrictions at the time. This time, around 1,800 people attended the service.

Last October she was told to rest by doctors, and since then she has been less visible in public. This was her first major public appearance in five months.

Due to the queen’s frail condition, the service was limited to 40 minutes, and she was given an extra cushion.

She is reported by local media to have mobility issues, and cameras did not film her walking to her seat. She took a shorter route than normal to get to her place.
