Muslim, Russian Orthodox, Jewish officials condemn missile attack on Azerbaijan's second largest city

By Ruslan Rehimov

BAKU, Azerbaijan (AA) - Muslim, Russian Orthodox and Jewish religious officials in Ganja, Azerbaijan on Wednesday condemned a missile attack on the city by the Armenian army.

"Many civilians were killed and injured in the attack on Ganja, and many houses became unusable. We strongly condemn the attack on Ganja city center," the Western Regional Office of the Caucasian Muslims Administration, the Alexander Nevsky Russian Orthodox Church and the Ganja Jewish Community said a statement.

It noted civilians were targeted by the Armenian army, which was defeated by Azerbaijani that began an operation to save its territory from Armenia occupation.

During meetings in Moscow last week, the two sides agreed to a humanitarian cease-fire to allow an exchange of prisoners and each other’s dead in Nagorno-Karabakh, effective noon Oct. 10.

But 24 hours after the deal was signed, the Armenian army attacked Azerbaijan's second-largest city with missiles that killed 10 people and injured 35, although the Ganja region is outside the frontline zone.
