Rubio, Mexican foreign secretary discuss border, fentanyl trafficking

US and Mexico discuss 'shared security goals, including dismantling foreign terrorist organizations' involved in trafficking fentanyl and weapons, says State Department

WASHINGTON (AA) - US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Wednesday with Mexican Foreign Secretary Juan Ramon de la Fuente in Washington to discuss joint efforts to combat fentanyl trafficking and border security as well as other issues, according to the State Department.

"The United States and Mexico continue to improve cooperation to advance our shared security goals, including dismantling foreign terrorist organizations that threaten both countries by trafficking fentanyl and weapons," the department said in a readout of the meeting.

They also exchanged views on promoting economic prosperity across the region and ending illegal immigration, it added.

“The United States views its partnership with Mexico as vital to addressing key challenges,” the State Department quoted Rubio as saying in the readout.
