Russia claims Ukraine attacked ship tasked with ensuring safety of TurkStream, Blue Stream pipelines

3 Ukrainian boats in alleged attack ‘neutralized,’ says Russian Defense Ministry

ISTANBUL (AA) - Russia claimed Wednesday that Ukraine attacked a ship belonging to its Black Sea fleet that is tasked to ensure the safe operation of the TurkStream and Blue Stream pipelines.

“At 5:30 a.m. today, the Ukrainian Armed Forces unsuccessfully attempted to attack the Black Sea Fleet's ship Ivan Khurs ship, which is carrying out tasks to ensure the safe operation of the Turkish Stream and Blue Stream gas pipelines in the exclusive economic zone of the Republic of Turkey, by three unmanned speedboats,” according to a statement by the Russian Defense Ministry.

It claimed that all three Ukrainian boats used during the alleged attack were “neutralized” by the ship, which it said was located 140 kilometers (87 miles) northeast of the Istanbul Strait.

It said Ivan Khurs continues its mission and Russian Armed Forces have been “taking measures to protect such facilities” following explosions at the Nord Stream pipelines last September.

Neither Turkish nor Ukrainian officials have yet to respond to the claim.
