Russia reports 3,388 new COVID-19 cases

MOSCOW (AA) - At least 3,388 new cases of the novel coronavirus were reported in Russia over the past 24 hours, authorities said Wednesday, bringing the total number to 24,490.

The death toll from the coronavirus in the country reached 198, as 28 more people died since yesterday, the emergency team said in a statement.

As many as 1,986 people have recovered, including 292 patients discharged from hospitals over the past 24 hours.

Since the virus emerged last December in the Chinese city of Wuhan, it has spread to at least 185 countries and regions.

There are nearly 1.99 million confirmed infections globally with over 126,700 deaths, according to the U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University. More than 493,800 have recovered.
