ISTANBUL (AA) - Russian officials said on Monday that a fire broke out at an oil terminal in the country’s Krasnodar region due to an overnight Ukrainian drone attack.

Krasnodar’s regional administration said in a statement on Telegram that the attack took place in the southern region’s easternmost Temryuksky district, with debris from the downed drones falling in the village of Volna.

“Fires broke out at one of the terminals, damaging two piers, two vessels, and a pipeline. There were no injuries among the crew or employees on shore,” the statement said.

It added that active efforts to extinguish the fire were underway, and emergency and special services were working on the site and Governor Veniamin Kondratyev was personally monitoring the situation.

The administration said the attack targeted the port of Taman, situated near Volna.

Separately, the Defense Ministry claimed air defenses shot down six Ukrainian drones overnight, of which three were intercepted over Krasnodar.

Ukraine’s General Staff later confirmed striking the Tamanneftegaz oil terminal, saying in a statement that it recorded a series of explosions at the facility.

“It is known about damage to a pipeline, two piers and two vessels, as well as fires on an area of over 1,000 square meters and no less than one vessel,” the statement added.

Volna is located near the Kerch Strait, separating Krasnodar from the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia annexed in 2014.
