Incidents spiked due to 'subversive activities' of Ukrainian forces supported by Western countries led by US, says spy chief

MOSCOW (AA) – At least 123 terrorist crimes, including 64 terror attacks, were thwarted in Russia in 2022, authorities said on Tuesday.

Activities of 68 clandestine cells of international terrorist organizations were also disrupted, according to a report by Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC).

Alexander Bortnikov, head of the Russian intelligence Federal Security Service (FSB), said the number of terror-related crimes grew this year in regions bordering Ukraine.

He attributed the spike to “intelligence and subversive activities of Ukrainian special services, carried out with the support of Western countries led by the US.”

Bortnikov instructed officials to ensure “reliable anti-terrorist protection of facilities, primarily socially significant ones, as well as industrial plants and nuclear, fuel and energy and transport complexes.”

The NAC report said “more than 400 Ukrainian nationalists and persons who committed war crimes were detained at border checkpoints.”

It added that 1,026 people “involved in terrorist activities” were prevented from entering Russia.
