Russia says relations with Germany at their lowest point

MOSCOW (AA) - Russia said on Thursday that relations with Berlin have reached their lowest point since the establishment of the Federal Republic of Germany.

During a meeting in Moscow with representatives of the Russia-Germany Society, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Dmitry Lyubinsky blamed the deterioration of relations on German political leaders.

According to him, the German authorities are pursuing a deliberate strategy of "punishing Russia" by breaking long-standing connections built over decades.

The diplomat pointed out that German officials had repeatedly voted against UN resolutions condemning Nazi and neo-Nazi ideologies.

"The spirit of 'Prussian militarism' is once again hovering over Berlin, and German claims to 'leadership' are causing rejection and repulsive historical parallels not only among the broad Russian public but also among healthy political forces in various parts of Europe," he said.

According to Lyubinsky, the meeting participants expressed a commitment to continuing dialogue with like-minded German civic groups that advocate for collaborative efforts to ensure peace and security throughout Eurasia, including Russia.
