MOSCOW (AA) – Deputy head of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, on Tuesday claimed that “Anglo-Saxons” are trying to “scrape” a legal basis for what he called the "theft" of Russian assets.
Medvedev, who has held the offices of president and prime minister and is currently the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, commented on the UN General Assembly resolution asking Russia to compensate Ukraine for war damages.
He called on the UN body to adopt a similar resolution urging Washington to compensate Vietnam, Iraq, and other countries for losses caused by the US incursion.
"Otherwise, it looks like the beginning of the agony of the UN as the main international institution for reconciliation. The end will be painful for the entire international community. We will live without such a 'United Nations' organization'," he said.
The UN General Assembly passed a resolution on Monday calling for Russia to pay war reparations to Ukraine.
Ninety-four countries, including Türkiye, voted in favor of the resolution, while 14 voted against it and 74 abstained.
