MIDVOLGA-2 vessel, attacked while sailing from Russia to Georgia, reaches Türkiye’s Black Sea coast

SINOP, Türkiye/ISTANBUL (AA) - The “MIDVOLGA-2,” a vessel sailing from Russia to Georgia, arrived off the coast of Sinop, a northern province of Türkiye, after coming under attack in international waters in the Black Sea on Tuesday.

The ship, which reported being attacked 80 nautical miles off the Turkish coast, proceeded toward shore following the incident.

After entering Turkish territorial waters, the vessel was escorted by teams from the Turkish Coast Guard Black Sea Regional Command.

In a statement posted on US social media company X, Türkiye’s Directorate General for Maritime Affairs said the MIDVOLGA-2 tanker had been carrying sunflower oil from Russia to Georgia when it reported the attack roughly 80 nautical miles off the Turkish coast.

The statement also notes that the tanker has 13 crew members, all in no adverse condition.
